Supply and Gear List
Here are suggestions for 1 week of biking. Since you will be carrying your own gear for 500 miles it is optimal to pack as efficient and minimal as possible.
- Bike with panniers
- Bike Rack for gear
- helmet
- sunblock
- 2 extra inner tubes
- tire patch kit
- tire lever
- bike multi tool or basic bike repair kit for light bike maintenance
- LED bike flashlight (i.e. Fenix LD22)
- flashing red rear light
- camelback or similar water hydration
- backpack
- 2 water bottles
- bike frame pump, the smaller the better
- light/minimal tent
- bed roll & sleeping pad
- bungee cords to tie your gear to your bike
- 2 pairs of cycling shorts
- regular shorts (1-2 pairs, maybe substitute a pair of shorts for a lightweight pair of pants)
- sweatshirt/hoodie
- windbreaker (Patagonia nano puff jacket or any windbreaker will do)
- bike gloves
- 3-4 tshirts
- 3 pairs of underwear
- 3 pairs of socks
- lightweight shoes
- leg warmers
- power/protein bars. Don't carry too much food. just a few back up energy bars. We will be able to make plenty of stops for food, no point in carrying the extra weight
- Toiletries
- extra phone charger, perhaps solar
- ATM, credit card, some cash…
- Saddlebags: nothing fancy is needed. You can get a cheap one from Walmart. Waterproof is nice but if it isn't you can pack your stuff in garbage bags inside the saddle bags. Problem solved.
- Tires: the wider the tires, the better. Google "touring tires". They don't need to be expensive, previous riders have bought tires for $13 each.
- GoPro/Camera.
- Can Do Attitude :)
