'Bike for Kam' was started by Kam and her friends but the project represents all HIBM patients who struggle and hope daily. Since HIBM is genetic there are families who have 2-5 children affected by HIBM. All the proceeds will directly benefit HIBM medical research so that HIBM will one day no longer affect them. Bike for Kam bikes for HIBM (Hereditary Inclusion Body Myopathies). Our benefits nonprofit, ARM, a non-profit who has created a treatment that is waiting to go to human clinical trials.
ARM (Advancement of Research for Myopathies) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission to raise funds for research, to encourage researchers to study this rare disorder and to ultimately find a cure for the orphan disease known as HIBM. HIBM is a progressive and debilitating muscle wasting disorder caused by a gene defect. I touches those between the ages of 20-30 and although progression is slow, it typically leads to total disability within 10-15 years.
For them and all HIBM patients ARM offers a ray of hope and the is leading supporter in research towards a cure.
