Supply and Gear List

Here are suggestions for 1 week of biking. Since you will be carrying your own gear for 500 miles it is optimal to pack as efficient and minimal as possible.

  • Bike with panniers
  • Bike Rack for gear
  • helmet
  • sunblock
  • 2 extra inner tubes
  • tire patch kit
  • tire lever
  • bike multi tool or basic bike repair kit for light bike maintenance
  • LED bike flashlight (i.e. Fenix LD22)
  • flashing red rear light
  • camelback or similar water hydration
  • backpack
  • 2 water bottles
  • bike frame pump, the smaller the better
  • light/minimal tent
  • bed roll & sleeping pad
  • bungee cords to tie your gear to your bike
  • 2 pairs of cycling shorts
  • regular shorts (1-2 pairs, maybe substitute a pair of shorts for a lightweight pair of pants)
  • sweatshirt/hoodie
  • windbreaker (Patagonia nano puff jacket or any windbreaker will do)
  • bike gloves
  • 3-4 tshirts
  • 3 pairs of underwear
  • 3 pairs of socks
  • lightweight shoes
  • leg warmers
  • power/protein bars. Don't carry too much food. just a few back up energy bars. We will be able to make plenty of stops for food, no point in carrying the extra weight
  • Toiletries
  • extra phone charger, perhaps solar
  • ATM, credit card, some cash…
  • Saddlebags: nothing fancy is needed. You can get a cheap one from Walmart. Waterproof is nice but if it isn't you can pack your stuff in garbage bags inside the saddle bags. Problem solved.
  • Tires: the wider the tires, the better. Google "touring tires". They don't need to be expensive, previous riders have bought tires for $13 each.
  • GoPro/Camera.
  • Can Do Attitude :)
